I was just having a conversation with my sister about how much we enjoy being outdoors, but due to jobs, etc., we don’t always get to be outside as often as we’d like.
Both of us also crave sunshine and fresh air — and honestly, we need it to stay “sane.” I’m not the most pleasant person to be around if I’ve been cooped up inside, tied to my desk, and all I see out my window is grey skies.
Of course, my sister and I are not unique. According to Dr. Sarah Ivens, author of Forest Therapy: Seasonal Ways to Embrace Nature for a Happier You, research shows that neglecting to spend time outside can take a serious toll on our moods, leading to issues like depression.
Neglecting to “stop and smell the roses” in a literal sense is not surprising given our fast-paced lifestyles. Some of us have even forgotten how to connect with nature. But, Dr. Ivens says it’s imperative for improved happiness, sleep, immunity and energy.
So, what’s stopping you from running to the forest?
